My intuition led me to read "Waking up to a New Earth" this morning and I am moved to stay on the path that is right in front of me...learning more, sharing what I know and giving freely of my time and myself. My New Year's resolution was to live with Simple Abundance - I have all that I need. I view competition as healthy but only if it is without fear. There is enough room for everyone and we each have our own talents to offer. Imagine if we pooled those resources for the good of the whole. The ablility to be confident in a higher purpose and to share that without the attachment of ego is my hope. Thank you Bob and Ian for your words - my own inner pessimist has been replaced by the optimism that I love to live life by and I feel lighter from having purged some of the limiting beliefs that have been holding me back (and I'm making a trip to Goodwill this afternoon with a trunk full of "stuff"). I can feel a change in the world - one drop at a time with a ripple of possibilities following and tiny affirmations from those that have been affected and who are willing to see that they too can make a difference.

Thanks for your comment Bob- I resonate. When i read your comment it reminded me of an affirmation I wrote this week. Maybe it will speak to you- Namaste

Pessimism is sometimes appropriate. Optimism is often misguided. Even so, if its change you’re after, opt to be an optimist. Take a risk. Step out of your mind’s familiar patterns. Defy the evidence. Be crazy enough to believe in your dreams.

Say to yourself: My dreams are powerful. My spirit is unstoppable. I won’t be denied.

I am becoming (I could stop here!) more convinced that fear and its Earthly counterpart greed are tremendous motivating factors in the world today. I am certainly not immune from these plagues, but have chosen to become much more cooperative than competitive. Just imagine how much more advanced the world would be if scientists cooperated on cures for cancer, heart disease, etc. I do not believe that cooperation stifles iniative in any way. It is much more comfortable to work in a supportive environment than one where fear of losing ones job is at stake unless results (determined by an outside source) are reached.

Every society which has been imperialist based and has valued and rewarded competition has vanished from the earth. I do not know what direction the people of this planet will take. If we continue down the path we have taken for centuries, we will cease to exist in a few hundred (or less) years. Overcoming ego is the answer to our present dilemma, eventhough this has been known for centuries, no society has been able to pull it off to any great degree.
